Chinese Hospitals Showcase at WHX2026 Dubai UAE

The World Health Expo, or WHX, concluded in Dubai, UAE, on Thursday. The four-day event brought together over 4,300 exhibitors from more than 180 countries and regions, highlighting significant advancements in the healthcare sector.

Among the various exhibitors, the Chinese medical equipment sector emerged as one of the most vibrant, with "Made in China" receiving widespread recognition for its technological excellence and innovation.

Ren Fang, the deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Medical Equipment, shared with CGTN that in the past five to ten years, Chinese medical equipment has gained notable traction in the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. In 2025, China's medical equipment exports to 16 Middle Eastern countries reached $2.2 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of 10 percent.

This year marked a significant debut for China's top-tier hospitals at the expo, showcasing the nation's latest medical technologies and clinical standards. Leading hospitals participated, bringing with them not only clinical expertise but also comprehensive smart hospital solutions.

Qiao Jie, the executive vice president of Peking University, led a delegation of six hospitals affiliated with the university. International colleagues expressed significant interest in several fields, including artificial intelligence, big data, and medical robotics.

Zhongshan Hospital aimed to showcase its advanced concepts in medical care, diagnosis, management, and service, particularly in relation to its international healthcare ventures, according to Fan Jia, the honorary president of the hospital.

Xia Qiang, president of Renji Hospital in Shanghai, noted that international peers were impressed by China's advancements in healthcare. Many showed a keen desire to visit China to understand how AI is effectively integrated into everyday hospital operations.

Experts indicated that China's experience in reforming its healthcare system offers valuable insights for the Middle East. Cheng Yongzhong, Party Secretary of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, discussed China's exploration of a tiered healthcare system.

He highlighted that remote medicine, especially robotic surgery, enables specialists to treat patients efficiently regardless of distance, making it particularly relevant for many regions in the Middle East.

From precision surgical robots to advanced digital imaging systems, the presence of Chinese healthcare innovations in the Middle East has evolved significantly, transcending traditional commodity trade to usher in an era of technological empowerment.
