China is set to accelerate its transition to a green economy, focusing on innovative technology and sustainable practices to effectively combat pollution across all sectors. Premier Li Qiang announced this strategic initiative during his presentation at the opening session of the third meeting of the 14th National People's Congress, held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

In his remarks, Li underscored the importance of the Beautiful China Initiative, which aims to meet the growing public demand for a healthier environment. This initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing the quality of life through sustainable development.

"We will enhance pollution prevention and control along with ecological conservation," Li declared, highlighting efforts to maintain clear skies, clean waters, and unpolluted lands. The government plans to implement a national park-based system of protected areas and launch extensive biodiversity conservation programs.

To facilitate a low-carbon economy, Li outlined specific actions the government intends to undertake. These include accelerating the development of green and low-carbon technologies and enforcing strict regulations on energy-intensive industries to foster sustainability.

The Premier indicated that China will implement demonstration programs for cutting-edge green technologies and nurture new sectors, such as green building. Strategies will also include enhancing the recycling of waste materials and promoting incentives for environmentally friendly consumption.

"We will actively and prudently work toward reaching peak carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality," he stated, emphasizing plans to establish zero-carbon industrial parks and factories and improve carbon emissions tracking and management.

Efforts will also include carrying out low-carbon upgrade trials in coal-fired power plants while maintaining active participation in global environmental and climate governance, positioning China as a key player in the fight against climate change.

The third session of the 14th National People's Congress will take place from March 5 to March 11. This gathering will serve as a pioneering platform to discuss and implement these green initiatives officially.

In a practical demonstration of these principles, villagers in Lihua Village, Jiangsu Province, are cultivating Chinese medicinal herbs within a photovoltaic zone, illustrating how communities can engage in sustainable agricultural practices while simultaneously leveraging renewable energy.
