During an interview, he poignantly stated, 'when an eagle grows up with chickens, it thinks it's a chicken – until one day it notices it's not.' This metaphor underscores his belief that Africa must redefine its role in the global tech landscape.

Atangana, whose innovative research in fractional calculus has transformed mathematical modeling, spoke fervently about the fundamental role of mathematics in AI, describing it as 'the language, the grammar, and the backbone of artificial intelligence.' At this prominent AI conference, he articulated the critical need for genuine collaboration among nations in advancing the field.

When discussing the intricate relationship between mathematics and AI, Atangana highlighted that effective AI development hinges on predictive mathematics. He asserted, 'Mathematics and AI are deeply interconnected.' As mathematicians innovate, they not only push the boundaries of what is possible but also provide the foundations upon which AI technologies can evolve.

In his analysis of the current state of AI development, Atangana called for a diversification of leadership beyond the prevailing dynamics dominated by the United States and China. He remarked, 'I don't think it should be that one country is leading. It's good if we can have three, four, or five countries competing. When citizens from different countries work hard, everyone benefits.' This inclusive vision aims to foster a more balanced global AI ecosystem.

Atangana's perspective is particularly focused on addressing the pressing challenges faced by the Global South, emphasizing that AI has the potential to resolve fundamental issues such as food security and access to electricity, education, and healthcare. 'Africa has its own realities,' he stated, underscoring the need for technology to serve immediate human needs.

The mathematician also drew attention to the stark contrasts in how Western and Chinese nations engage with African scientists. He expressed his experiences of respect and collaboration in China in contrast to feeling diminished in the United States, saying, 'In the United States, it feels as if I'm treated like a child.' His reflections reveal an emotional toll rooted in systemic biases.

Atangana elaborated on the impact of racial prejudice, recounting how he is often met with suspicion upon arriving in the U.S., despite being recognized as one of the world's leading mathematicians. 'I cannot accept it,' he stated, emphasizing the deep frustrations faced by African scholars in the global academic arena.

Contrasting his experiences, Atangana praised the collaborative spirit in the China-Africa relationship, noting, 'The collaboration between China and Africa is still healthy... We don't see the aspect of colonization.' For him, true partnership embodies mutual respect and recognition of Africa's humanity.

Delivering a message of hope, Atangana championed African self-determination, stating, 'There comes a time when people mislead us, and that time is over.' He likened Africa's evolution to that of the eagle, advocating for a collective awakening to the continent's potential. 'That time is approaching when we will recognize that we are eagles, and we will rise,' he confidently expressed.

His vision for Africa is not against Western influence but distinctly in favor of self-reliance and empowerment. 'If I were in charge of Africa, I would refuse assistance from anyone. I would ensure that I work diligently and provide my children with the knowledge essential for our continent's development,' Atangana concluded, encapsulating his aspirational outlook for the future of African innovation.
