Denmark seeks green transition partnership with China

Denmark's Soren Gade has called for enhanced cooperation with China in green technology and sustainable industries, emphasizing the importance of such international partnerships during the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Speaking at a reception held by the Chinese Embassy in Denmark, Gade expressed his optimism regarding the potential for further collaboration, particularly in the context of the global movement towards sustainable development and green transition.

"We are very much involved in green tech, and China is as well. We will continue to cooperate on the green transition in the years to come," Gade remarked, underscoring the commitment of both nations to environmental initiatives.

He noted the depth of collaboration that has developed over the last 75 years, stating, "Denmark and China have enjoyed increasingly close cooperation in many areas. Our Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Lokke Rasmussen just visited China last month, which demonstrates the high level of our bilateral relations."

The speaker of the Danish Parliament highlighted specific sectors where cooperation has been particularly fruitful, including wind power, battery technology, and new energy vehicles, asserting that these areas should remain focal points for future endeavors.

"China is always at the forefront in these areas, and I see no reason why our cooperation should not continue and deepen in the years to come," he added, hinting at the vast potential for continued partnership.

Reflecting on his experiences, Gade mentioned his numerous visits to China, including a memorable state visit in 2014 with then-Danish Queen Margrethe II, which he described as instrumental in strengthening ties.

"China is a huge country with a large number of consumers. This is why many Danish companies are eager to develop in China," Gade explained, also praising the warm reception that Danish visitors receive in the country.
