China's Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang has emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in a bid to enhance global intellectual property and foster innovation.

During a meeting with WIPO Director General Daren Tang in Beijing, Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, articulated the need for enhanced international cooperation in intellectual property matters.

Ding stated that during the period of the 15th Five-Year Plan from 2026 to 2030, China is committed to bolstering the protection and utilization of intellectual property rights, with aspirations to become a leader in this domain.

The Vice Premier highlighted that China aims to support high-level self-reliance in science and technology, which is crucial for promoting sustainable and high-quality development.

Additionally, Ding reaffirmed China's support for WIPO in serving as a multilateral platform and professional institution that can provide more efficient and convenient services for innovators globally.

In his response, Tang acknowledged China's significant contributions to intellectual property initiatives and expressed WIPO's eagerness to deepen collaboration with China.

He emphasized the importance of enriching the global intellectual property framework, which is vital for nurturing scientific and technological innovation alongside economic development.
