Sparrow-X2 eVTOL Offers 1200 km Range for Medical Transport

Wuhan Fosenix General Aviation Co. has debuted its innovative Sparrow-X2, an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL), during a showcase event in Wuhan, located in central China's Hubei Province. Designed primarily for emergency medical services, this new aircraft aims to revolutionize medical transport with its enhanced capabilities.
The Sparrow-X2 is a six-seat aircraft weighing 2.7 tons. It can be outfitted with advanced medical equipment such as mobile CT scanners and ECMO systems, which are crucial for providing emergency care. Notably, the operating cost of the Sparrow-X2 is approximately 2,000 yuan, translating to around 292 US dollars per hour, presenting a stark contrast to the higher expenses associated with traditional medical helicopters.
Originally designed to have a standard electric range of 200 kilometers, the Sparrow-X2 can be equipped with a range extender to increase its maximum operational range to an impressive 1,200 kilometers. This extended range significantly enhances its capacity to facilitate intercity and interprovincial medical transport, a vital service in regions where access to hospitals is critical.
The design of the Sparrow-X2 incorporates eight rotors arranged in a 4+2+2 formation, which, along with its composite wing structure, permits both vertical take-off and landing, eliminating the requirement for runways. This flexibility in design makes it suitable for various terrains and operational contexts.
Beyond its primary function in medical transport, the Sparrow-X2 also has the capability to undertake multiple roles including firefighting, aerial inspections, security operations, and tourism-related flights. This versatility positions it as an adaptable asset across various sectors.
As of now, the Sparrow-X2 is in the midst of load and performance testing, crucial steps to ensure its safety and reliability in real-world operations. Production and patient transport trials are slated to commence later this year, marking a significant milestone in the development of eVTOL technology in China.
