Influenza Infections Remain High Across Japan

Japan has reported nearly 160,000 influenza cases in the second week of February, indicating a high prevalence that has persisted for several weeks. This data was released by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare on Friday.
Out of the 47 prefectures in Japan, 35 have reached the 'alert' level for influenza, reflecting the widespread impact of the virus across the nation.
As a consequence of the influenza outbreak, approximately 8,174 nurseries, kindergartens, and both elementary and middle schools nationwide have been closed, either fully or partially, as of February 15.
Health experts suggest that the current influenza season may continue until March or April, with indications that some patients might experience the infection twice during this period.
These developments underscore the critical situation regarding public health in Japan, prompting authorities to enhance awareness and preventive measures to combat the ongoing flu season.
