Underwater Robots Explore Hidden Depths of Our Oceans

Underwater robots developed by the Guangdong Intelligent Robotics Institute are revolutionizing marine exploration, enabling safe access to previously unreachable depths of 400 to 1,000 meters. These advanced machines are enhancing our understanding of the ocean's hidden mysteries.
Within the testing pool at the institute, a vividly colored yellow underwater robot exhibits an impressive level of agility, moving through the water with ease. This robot has been aptly described as a 'subaquatic sprite' due to its nimble movements and design tailored for complex underwater tasks.
Equipped for versatile operations, the robot can swim both vertically and horizontally and is capable of hovering in place. This feature allows for careful observation of specific areas, making it an ideal tool for marine researchers and engineers.
At a depth maximum of 400 meters and with a horizontal operational range stretching up to 1,000 meters, the underwater robot is well-suited for a variety of tasks in challenging environments.
"Our underwater robot is designed for tasks such as inspecting underwater facilities and conducting precision operations," stated Hu Gangyi, the general managing director of the company responsible for its development.
"It addresses the challenges of depth, duration, and safety that are inherent in traditional manual underwater work, thereby greatly enhancing both efficiency and operational security," he added.
In addition to the technical capabilities of the robots, Hu emphasized the critical role played by the Greater Bay Area in fostering innovation. He noted that the local ecosystem, characterized by strong manufacturing capabilities, an advanced supply chain, and robust investment opportunities, has accelerated the commercialization of their research efforts.
