New Trends Transforming Global Supply Chain Indices

A recent report titled the Global Supply Chain Promotion Report 2025 was unveiled during the 3rd China International Supply Chain Expo, emphasizing China's central role in enhancing global supply chain resilience. This flagship publication highlights emerging trends in global supply chain collaboration and innovation.

Zhao Ping, a spokesperson for the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, stated that technological innovation is increasingly pivotal in shaping global supply chains. The report indicates that digital technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, are advancing rapidly, while green technologies like carbon capture and storage are being implemented more swiftly, pushing global supply chains towards a new era characterized by digitalization and eco-friendly development.

The report systematically details China's key initiatives and the new opportunities available for global supply chain enhancement. China has made substantial investments in infrastructure connectivity and has maintained a strong commitment to open markets. By actively promoting global supply chain cooperation and adapting productive forces to local conditions, China has bolstered financial services, thereby increasing certainty in international supply chain partnerships amidst a volatile global landscape.

Over the last three years, the report has explored the global supply chains associated with 17 essential products, including advanced technologies like drones and humanoid robots, as well as agricultural goods like soybeans and wine. This research paints a clear picture of the upstream, midstream, and downstream dynamics within each of these vital supply chains.

Central to the report is the introduction of an index matrix comprising four distinct indices: the promotion index, connectivity index, innovation index, and resilience index. Notably, the innovation and resilience indices are being presented for the first time at this year's expo, illustrating a growing focus on these critical components in supply chain management.

The index matrix employs 2018 as its base period, assigning it a base index value of 1. By 2024, the figures reflect notable increases: the promotion index escalates to 2.71, the connectivity index rises to 1.56, the innovation index advances to 2.16, and the resilience index reaches 1.22, showcasing a tangible upward trend over the years.

Zhao emphasized that all four indices have demonstrated positive growth, signaling a favorable trend in the development of global supply chains. Nevertheless, he cautioned that supply chain resilience remains vulnerable; hence, a collective effort from all stakeholders is crucial to improve the development environment, enhance connectivity, and foster innovation capacity to strengthen supply chain resilience effectively.
