China has completed the construction of its largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) reserve base, known as the Green Energy Port, located in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. This monumental achievement is poised to significantly boost the country's energy security and bolster its commitment to green energy initiatives.

The project was independently designed and built by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). According to Li Feng, the deputy general manager of CNOOC Gas Power, this reserve base is crucial for enhancing energy security within the Yangtze River Delta region, while also aligning with China's broader goals for sustainable development.

The Green Energy Port is equipped with six LNG storage tanks with a capacity of 270,000 cubic meters each, alongside four tanks that can hold 220,000 cubic meters. This massive infrastructure enables a total storage capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters.

Furthermore, the facility has been designed to process an impressive 6 million tonnes of LNG annually, which is equivalent to approximately 8.5 billion cubic meters of conventional natural gas. This processing capability underscores its importance in meeting the region's energy demands.

Li noted that the Green Energy Port is a pivotal element in China's natural gas production, supply, storage, and sales system. The project acts as a connection point for major gas transportation networks, including pipelines that transfer natural gas from western regions to the east and the China-Russia eastern gas pipeline.

In addition to its extensive pipeline connections, the port will also facilitate the transportation of natural gas via tank trucks to several provinces, including Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui, and Shandong. This operational capacity ensures the maintenance of robust energy security throughout the critical Yangtze River Delta area.
