China's C919 Launches Domestic Flights with Major Airlines

In a significant advancement for China's aviation sector, the domestically developed C919 passenger aircraft by COMAC has officially commenced commercial operations with major airlines. This landmark development underscores China's ongoing evolution in the field of aviation technology.

A notable highlight was the flight operated by China Southern Airlines (CSA), which flew a fully booked C919 from Guangzhou to Hangzhou on Saturday morning. This route marks a new entry for the China-developed jetliner in the domestic aviation market.

Dubbed the 'Hangzhou-Guangzhou Express,' this flight will operate initially from Monday to Thursday and Saturdays, with plans to transition to daily flights beginning October 7. This consistent schedule indicates growing confidence in the C919's performance and reliability.

This new route follows the earlier launch of the 'Beijing-Hangzhou route,' which also featured the C919 aircraft at Hangzhou Airport. The expansion of routes indicates the increasing integration of the C919 into China's broader air transportation network.

The inaugural commercial flight not only serves as a key milestone for CSA but also for China's national ambitions in aviation. Departing from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, flight CZ3539 successfully transported passengers to Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport.

China Southern Airlines is among the major carriers that have embraced the C919, aligning with Air China and China Eastern Airlines (CEA) in integrating this new technology into their fleets. Notably, CSA has committed to acquiring 100 C919 aircraft from COMAC.

To date, COMAC has delivered nine C919 aircraft to leading airlines across China. Both CSA and Air China took delivery of their inaugural units in Shanghai on August 28.

China Eastern Airlines, which is the launch customer for the C919, has consistently reported positive operational performance since the introduction of their seven aircraft into service on May 28, 2023.

The progress of the C919 not only reflects a technological leap but also strengthens China's position in the global aviation market. Continued support and orders from major airlines signal a robust future for this domestically manufactured aircraft.

As the C919 settles into the competitive landscape of aviation, its commercial operations may pave the way for further advancements in China's aerospace technology, showcasing the capabilities of both COMAC and the nation's ambitions in this vital industry.
