China and Thailand Launch Hydro-Floating Solar Project for Clean Energy

A new hydro-floating solar hybrid power plant, developed in a collaborative effort between Chinese and Thai companies, has officially commenced operations in Thailand. This initiative is aimed at bolstering the country's capabilities in clean energy production.
Situated at the Ubolratana Dam in Thailand's northeastern Khon Kaen Province, the plant integrates floating solar technology with hydropower, energy storage systems, and advanced energy management solutions. The project has been realized through the efforts of Dongfang Electric International Corporation, a leader in power-generating equipment manufacturing, alongside its Thai partners.
Jiraporn Sirikum, the deputy governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), highlighted the importance of such floating solar hybrid power plants in reinforcing clean energy generation and ensuring power stability for the nation. She commended the joint efforts of Chinese and Thai firms, noting their ability to complete the project ahead of the planned schedule.
"The timely delivery of this project reflects a serious commitment to advancing clean energy in Thailand. We are optimistic that the floating solar infrastructure will contribute positively to the local economy and community welfare," Jiraporn remarked during the launch ceremony for the project's commercial operations.
Liu Hongmei, the Chinese Consul General in Khon Kaen, expressed her belief that the operational launch of the hydro-floating solar project would significantly enhance the quality of life for residents in Northeast Thailand and serve as a milestone for Chinese investments within the region.
According to EGAT, this hydro-floating solar hybrid power plant marks the second initiative of its kind in Thailand, with plans to develop additional similar projects throughout the country. This move aligns with the national strategy to promote renewable energy sources.
